A Bachelor's Degree Program in TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING (TURKISH-ENGLISH) is a 240 ECTS Credits, 4-year program. The program meets the requirements by both the ECTS credits and level descriptors of the first cycle degree qualifications of the Overarching Framework of European Qualifications Framework HE(QF-EHEA) and the 6th level qualifications of the Turkish Qualifications Framework for HE (TYYÇ, NQF-HETR). The level descriptors also meet the 6th level requirements of the qualifications of the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL) . Upon successful completion of this program, students are awarded with the qualification of BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING (TURKISH-ENGLISH).
The objective of the department is to enable students to use English and Turkish effectively in translation when they graduate after a dense education program. The students are prepared to translate written and oral texts both in English and German during their education to meet the needs of the European Union and the business world.
This Program's profile and mission is to raise equipped individuals that would meet the needs of our country in translation services, to raise translators and interpreters who embraced the cultures and foundations of the languages they’ve learned; to raise individuals who have strong language knowledge of at least two different foreign languages besides Turkish language; to raise students who expertise in economy, law, literature, social sciences and science texts and also the European Union texts with the necessary terminology in order to be expert of technical knowledge in writing-reading, understanding-expressing and translating; to raise individuals who are equipped in consecutive and simultaneous translation; to raise students who have professional ethics and know and apply ISO-17100 translation services standards in national and international translation projects.

Students who will major at this department are supposed to have B2 level of English Language knowledge. The ones who have a document of language competence from the certified examinations which is approved by Council of Higher Education of Turkey can start having the undergraduate courses. The ones who haven't got any documents for language competence or the ones who can not get the adequate score from the Proficiency Test which is given every year, at the beginning of the academic year by Amasya University are being educated at the preparetion classes of English Language for a year.

History
Amasya University School of Foreign Languages was established in 25.01.2016 with 2016/8562 numbered Council of Ministers Decision.
In the meeting of Council of Higher Education, dated 05.04.2017, adjudicated to be found Translation and Interpreting (English) department within School of Foreign Languages at Amasya University. In 2018-2019 academic year, education and training was commenced to with the participation of 41 students, who are come from all regions of Turkey.
Qualification Awarded
In order to graduate from the program of TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING (ENGLISH): The GPA must be at least 60 out of 100; all compulsory courses in the curriculum must be completed; all other projects stipulated in the program must be accomplished; a total of 240 ECTS credits must be completed; the graduation decision must be taken by the relevant Board of Directors. Higher Grade Transition
Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to master’s (second cycle) and in some cases, to doctorate (third cycle) degree programs in or related fields of Translation and Interpreting (Turkish-English) or other fields.
Graduation Requirements
In order for a student to graduate from the TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING (TURKISH-ENGLISH) program the following conditions must to be met:
Completion of all the courses designated within the curriculum of the programme,
Having a total of 240 ECTS Credits, with passing grades,
Achievement of a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 60 out of 100.
Upon successful completion of this program, students are awarded with the qualification of BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING (TURKISH-ENGLISH) and receive diploma supplement organized in English in accordance with the provisions of the relevant legislation.
Translation-interpreting services are inevitable between the parties in need of communication of the intersection points of different languages and cultures. Interpreting is implemented simultaneously, consecutively and whispering method. Simultaneous method is common in conference interpreting just like consecutive way in community interpreting such as health and law. Oral translation services can comprise interpreting via telephone or video call besides face to face interpreting. Text translation comprises work areas such as literary translation, official document translation or technical translation. If it needed to be looked in personal document translations, it comprises many documents such as birth certificate, identity card, driving licence and criminal record. For the corporate document translations, localization of web sites may be cited as example. The necessity of translation services is increasing day by day on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. There are also areas of study where oral and written translation are practiced together for instance transcription, subtitling and dubbing may.

The objective of the translation-oriented textual analysis course is to help students understand bilingual competence and how it differs from translation competence, and involves source text analysis and targettext production within a context.
Course Content:
During the course of the first weeks, I aim to raise an awareness of bilingualism and translation competence through a plethora of examples. I also emphsize how reading for general purposes is different from reading for translation purposes. I attempt to bring together the skills for sourcetext analysis and target text production. In the weeks ahead, the concept of translation quality begin to play a part in the practice of translation. I make use of the ISO 17100 Translation Services Quality Standard for students to get a grip on a variety of roles while working in a team in a translation agency. The aim of this course is to enable the student to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence required to examine the thematic/generic/formal differences and developments between or among British, American, Turkish and European literatures from their first literary appearance.
Course Content:
In this course, a representative literary genre/theme/technique in Britain, Europe, America, and Turkey is compared and contrasted in terms of its theoretical and thematic differences; the similarities and differences among various historical periods of the representative literary genre/theme/technique are pointed out, and the influences of literary movements on the representative literary genre/theme/technique are evaluated.
